Research Output

AT India has promoted two community owned enterprises Chamoli Tasar and Devbhumi Madhu to manage our tasar (silk production) and honey operations. These enterprises add economic value to the available oak leaves, diverse nectar and pollen rich plants, medicinal herbs, and shrubs. They serve to increase the villagers concern for the oak forest. The enterprises provide technical knowhow, training and marketing services. Production is through independent entrepreneurial groups working with the project.

The project activities include production, processing and marketing of oak tasar silk and honey under the brand names Himalayan Silk and Devbhumi Honey. Local people and Van Panchayats are involved in Biodiversity Conservation and Monitoring. The strategy provides opportunity to the local community for income generation. It gives access to information and technical support and provides necessary incentive to work for long term conservation of biological diversity. As an implementing agency we are seeking to expand our existing conservation/enterprise related projects, which are as follows:

The temperate oak tasar silk project | The honey and beekeeping project | Self Help Groups and microfinance

Conservation and plantation | Dairy development – business development services | Ringal and Lichens

Village based Ecotourism | Interpretation Centers
